ABOUT US
2021 Bateman Case Study Competition

Each year, PRSSA National holds a public relations competition where students from colleges nationwide are charged with planning, designing and implementing a campaign on their campus. Following a tumultuous year of an ongoing pandemic and a heated presidential election, the prompt this year focuses on how public relations professionals can restore quality and integrity to public discourse.

Let’s face it, it's a problem – but one that can be solved!

Our team of six students from The University of Alabama’s PRSSA chapter got to work on how we could develop a campaign that tackles the issue of incivility in discourse on our campus. When conducting research, we found that individuals in our focus groups time and time again stated that they accredited the current state of civil discourse to the screen that separates us: technology.

This leading insight was too important to ignore. Therefore, we conceptualized To My Face, a campaign that aims to change the public's perception of saying something to one’s face. Given the level of anonymity that social media provides the public, it is now easier than ever to engage in discourse without the same implications of face-to-face communication. The To My Face campaign works toward educating our community on how to engage in all types of discourse as if it were in-person.
